BARNETT: Don't feel like a loanee

Posted on: Fri 12 Feb 2010

COVENTRY City loan defender Leon Barnett says he wants to repay the club's backing of him with good performances for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old centre-half, on loan from West Bromwich Albion, extended his stay at the Ricoh Arena on Monday until the end of the season and he said it was nice to be made to feel wanted by the Sky Blues.

"It's a really good feeling to know you're wanted by a club and the way the manager and the players have been have made me feel that way here," Barnett said.

"I just hope I can repay the club's faith in me with good performances up until the end of the season.

"I wasn't to sure what was going to happen originally but the manager said he wanted me to stay and now it is all sorted it's put me in a very positive frame of mind.

"I don't feel like a loanee here. I feel part of the team because that's the way everyone here has made me feel and hopefully I can contribute to improved team performances by creating a little bit more competition for places at the back.

"I want to be at a team that wants me to be part of the things and developments they are involved in and that's certainly the case here so I want to get my head down and keep working hard and put in some good display for the club."
