DEEGAN: Need to see it out

Posted on: Fri 12 Feb 2010

COVENTRY City midfielder Gary Deegan says the Sky Blues were left gutted after conceding a last-gasp goal which left them empty-handed at Portman Road.

Chris Coleman's side appeared to have a salvaged a point with an equaliser against Ipswich Town in the fourth minute of injury time only for Tractor Boys striker Pablo Counago to reinstate the home side's lead 20 seconds after the restart.

Deegan, who made his full debut for the Sky Blues following his January switch from Irish champions Bohemians, said City were crestfallen after failing to see the game out with a draw.

"It happened on Tuesday against Portsmouth and it's happened again and we need to start seeing games out and make sure we play to the whistle," he said.

"The manager was not happy about the amount of injury time but he was not happy with the way we switched off at the end of the game either because we need to see it out.

"It's the second time it has happened to us in a week and we need to make sure we stay focused for the full 90 minutes.

"It's been a big week for myself with making my full debut but a goal like that right at the end is hard to take considering how hard we battled to get something out of the game."
