COLEMAN: Poor display but great result

Posted on: Fri 12 Feb 2010

COVENTRY City boss Chris Coleman said he was delighted with a third straight win at the Ricoh Arena despite admitting he had seen his side produce better footballing displays.

City picked up their fourth win in their last five league games with a 3-1 over Barnsley to propel them to 14th in the Championship table.

But the City boss said while he was pleased to have picked up 12 points from the last 15, he thought a disrupted week of training due to poor weather may have contributed to some below par moments.

"Freddy Eastwood's, Sammy Clingan's and Clinton Morrison's goals were all very well worked but at times I thought we were a bit sloppy and a bit poor," he said.

"There were times early on in both halves where perhaps Barnsley could have perhaps caused more damage because I don't think we played very well today but we got the three points and that's what counts.

"Two-nil is always a precarious scoreline, we know that, and then they got their goal early doors in the second half and it was like we were hanging on for a bit but football being football they nearly equalised late on and 60 seconds later we got a third to kill the game off.

"We've played alot better than that and lost but it's not been easy with training being disrupted by the weather and credit to the lads because they've really turned the season round in the last few games and they've put themselves on a good footing."
