CRANIE: Got to keep working hard

Posted on: Fri 12 Feb 2010

COVENTRY City defender Martin Cranie said the Sky Blues' performance against Newcastle United at the Ricoh Arena did not warrant them coming away empty handed.

City conceded late first and second half goals through Shola Ameobi and Nile Ranger to hand the Magpies their seventh consecutive Championship victory.

But Cranie said if the Sky Blues can continue to apply the same work ethic and approach as they did against Chris Hughton's side then their league fortunes will improve.

"We didn't turn up in the defeat to Scunthorpe on Sunday and the manager let us know that and against Newcastle we needed to come out and perform for 90 minutes and I think we did that," he said.

"From the first whistle I thought we came out from numbers one to 11 and it was a blow for us that we conceded that late goal in the first half because had we gone in level at half time it could have been a very different game in the second half.

"Things don't seem to be dropping for us lately but we've just got to keep going and keep working hard and our fortunes will turn around and we need to try and start that this weekend because it will be amassive game for us against Peterborough."
