COVENTRY City boss Chris Coleman said his players could not have given any more defollowing their 2-0 defaet to Newcastle United at the Ricoh Arena.
The Sky Blues suffered a first half injury time sucker punch from Shola Ameobi with substitute Nile Ranger wrapping up the points for the Magpies with nine minutes to go.
But Coleman said he was not too despondent despite the club extending their winless streak to ten games.
"The lads gave it all they had tonight and it was a definitely a step up from Sunday's performance," he said.
"When you are in the situation we are the result is always the biggest thing though so of course we're disappointed but, in terms of trying to win the game, I didn't think there was a great deal more that we could have done.
"We know what we are capable of doing and we need to turn a corner and we haven't yet and that bend gets bigger and bigger but with the squad we've got we will get three points. It's just got to come soon."
