MCINDOE: Nowhere near our best yet

Posted on: Fri 12 Feb 2010

COVENTRY City midfielder Michael McIndoe said there is still a lot more to come from the Sky Blues this season.

Chris Coleman's side picked up a superb 3-2 win over Sheffield United at the Ricoh Arena on Tuesday night and McIndoe said that performance contained all the ingredients that could help the club have a successful season.

"Two things for us that played a big part on Tuesday were work rate and quality and when you look at sides like Sheffield United, Preston and Bristol City they are normally the key factors that enable them to do well," McIndoe said.

"When we turn up with the kind of work ethic and quality that we did on Tuesday we can match anybody in this division and midweek showed we got our just rewards for doing that.

"The good thing is there is a hell of a lot more to come from this team, I know there is.

"When we are on top form I believe we can beat anybody."

The 29-year-old Scotsman also said he would not be paying any attention to statistics ahead of Saturday's clash away to Preston, a fixture the Sky Blues have never been on the winning end of.

"Maybe when you are talking about teams in the top half of the Premiership you can talk about statistics but in this league it is so close I don't really pay much attention to the numbers.

"Preston are a very good footballing side, they have a reputation built on that, but we know we are nowhere near our best yet and the main aim is to try and take the positive's from Tuesday's game up to Preston and try and get a result."
