COVENTRY City completed their penultimate away friendly of the 2009/10 pre-season with a goalless draw against Huddersfield Town at the Galpharm Stadium.
The Sky Blues enjoyed the majority of the goalscoring opportunities in the first half but the Terriers carved enough opportunities of their own to keep the City rearguard on their toes.
And despite a fairly disjointed affair in the second period, due to numerous substitutions, both sides produced an exciting final ten minutes which could have seen either side snatch a win.
City striker Leon Best had Huddersfield fans' hearts in their mouths after just three minutes when he charged down a kick from Huddersfield 'keeper Alex Smithies.
And the Republic of Ireland International had a half chance eight minutes later, steering a header just wide after Elliott Ward's cross.
Best returned the favour for ward on 16 minutes, heading at the back post for Ward who fired into the roof of the net from close range only to have the goal ruled offside.
Former Sky Blue Robbie Simpson gave a remind of his dead-ball capabilities though, firing a 30-yard free-kick just around City 'keeper Keiren Westwood's near post.
And he was almost the end of a cross from Anthony Pilkington who dispossessed Ward on 34 minutes and crossed at the byline although he was beaten to the ball by the head of James McPake.
Simpson had one more chance to get on the scoresheet five minutes before the break, racing away at goal into an almost-one-on-one with Westwood although pressure from Stephen Wright and McPake put him off enough to allow Westwood to gather the ball at Simpson's feet.
City got the second half off to a positive start, Gunnarsson's floated free-kick finding Isaac Osbourne in the six-yard box who backheeled for Ward whose close range shot could not find a way through numerous Huddersfield bodies five minutes after the break.
Huddersfield substitute striker Theo Robinson then got the better of McPake two minutes later, getting around the Scottish defender but being brought down by him by the edge of the penalty area for a free kick.
Much of the second half was then disjointed by substitutions, both sides making nine between them.
But that did not stop a handful of exciting moments in the final ten minutes.
First, Robinson beat the offside trap to go one-on-one with Westwood only to be bettered by the Sky Blues 'keeper who went to ground and picked the ball off his feet.
Sub Lee Novak then nearly caught out replacement Ben Turner who left a ball for Westwood only for it to fall short, nearly allowing Novak to sneak in.
But Ashley Cain almost netted the winner with nine minutes to go, getting around Tom Clarke after collecting a long ball from Osbourne and forcing a good save out of Smithies with his effort from just inside the penalty area.
