GOALS in each half from strike duo Leon Best and Freddy Eastwood handed the Sky Blues their second consecutive pre-season win with a 2-0 victory over Hinckley United at the Greene King Stadium.
The Sky Blues were a goal up heading into the break after a 25th minute opener from Leon Best.
And Freddy Eastwood wrapped up the game five minutes from time with a close range header from substitute Shaun Jeffers' cross.
Republic of Ireland international Best netted his first goal of the Sky Blues' pre-season preparations with a simple tap in from less than four yards following a troublesome throw-in from Aron Gunnarsson.
The Sky Blues dominated large periods of the game throughout the first half with plenty of penetration down the right flank with David Bell.
But City just lacked the final ball in the six-yard box which could have had them up by more goals at the break.
Gunnarsson could have helped Best onto the scoresheet after 11 minutes when his short (by his standards) throw met the head of Best who directed his header just wide of the near post.
Former Sky Blues youngster Andy Gooding almost opened up his former club's back line three minutes later with a clever flick although Jermaine Grandison was on hand to nick the ball away from the feet of former fellow academy player Matthew West from 12 yards out.
A corner delivery from Bell on 18 minutes also almost handed the Sky Blues their first goal, the deep delivery headed back across goal by Ben Turner towards Grandison whose glancing header was steered wide of the far post.
City finally opened their account after 25 minutes though, Gunnarsson firing in a throw which glanced off two heads in the six-yard box before falling to the feet of Best at the back post who slotted home.
Gooding had a half-effort for Hinckley six minutes before the break, dribbling across the Coventry penalty area before hitting a weak shot straight at Dimi Konstantopoulos who replaced originally planned starting 'keeper Keiren Westwood before kick-off.
And Best also had a chance to get a second just before the break when Bell's cross bounced off James Mace and fell to Best's feet although goalkeeper Chris MacKenzie was quickest to the ball.
City started of the second half in positive fashion, Best winning a free-kick 35 yards out and Fox playing it short to Eastwood who teed up Gunnarsson for a shot at MacKenzie from 25 yards out.
Hinckley almost levelled two minutes before the hour though, Konstantopoulos required to produce some acrobatics to tip Connor Franklin's long range effort over the bar.
The littering of second half substitutes broke up the play somewhat in the second period but again the Sky Blues looked largely comfortable in the face of a lively home side scattered with former City players.
But Coventry held a relatively firm grip on the encounter despite not creating too many second half chances.
Grandison headed substitute Ashley Cain's corner just wide of the far post with 13 minutes to go.
And fellow sub Shaun Jeffers almost poked home a spilled ball from Isaac Osbourne's corner three minutes later, but lifting the ball over the bar.
Eastwood put the game beyond doubt with five minutes to go though when Jeffers broke down the right and cut inside before floating over a ball for Eastwood to head home from the edge of the six-yard area.
