WALKER: Delighted to turn pro

Posted on: Tue 30 Jun 2009

COVENTRY City Academy product Adam Walker said he was delighted to finally get his first ever professional football contract.

The 18-year-old midfielder, from Meriden, put pen to paper on a one-year professional deal earlier this week following his graduation from the club's youth set-up.

He said: "I'm delighted to have gotten my first contract so the next thing now is pre-season and then looking forward to the season.

"I suffered an injury earlier this year which put paid to the last couple of weeks of last season for me but now I'm running again and I want to be ready for when the season starts."

Walker made his first-team debut for the club in the Sky Blues' 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at the Ricoh Arena in December 2008 and he is one of a group of four Academy players who made the step up to senior leave during the second half of the 2008/09 season.

Teammates Curtis Wynter, Ashley Cain and Jermaine Grandison all made their first team debuts during the latter half of last season and Walker said he was just as delighted for them as he was for himself.

"It's great we've all been given pro contracts because we've all been together for a long time so it's good we all got contracts together.

"All four of us have been together for a while so we are going to stick together and keep on pushing this season."
