FA CUP finalists Everton are close to agreeing a pre season friendly against Coventry City to celebrate the testimonial year of Sky Blues stalwart Marcus Hall.

The Toffeemen, who finished fifth in the Premier League, have agreed to face Chris Coleman's team ahead of the new season but the final details of the game are still being ratified.

Hall's committee hoped to scoop a top-flight side for his testimonial clash to mark over a decade with the Sky Blues during two spells with the club.

And after last season's exploits, Everton are seen as a strong draw to commemorate the 33-year-old's service to City.

He said: "The committee wanted it be a big game and a proper game, which both teams would want to win rather than just a stroll and to get Everton will be fantastic.

"They have agreed but there is still quite a bit of work to do behind the scenes to ensure that we can get the game on.

"So I don't want to jump the gun too much until everything is 100 per cent certain that it is going ahead.

"One of my few career goals has come against Everton - in a League Cup tie many years ago - so they may well decide to call it off when they realise I am so prolific against them!"

The committee organising Hall's celebration year has already held a successful race night and golf day as part of his testimonial and further events are in the pipeline.

A 12.30pm kick off time is expected.
