NEWS: Ranson on transfer targets

Posted on: Thu 07 May 2009

COVENTRY CITY chairman Ray Ranson expects 'exciting' arrivals at the Ricoh Arena this summer, after Chris Coleman handed him a list of transfer targets.

Coleman has wasted no time in identifying the men he wants to bring to the club - and Ranson is ready to give his manager financial backing once again.

Last summer, the club bought in the likes of Aron Gunnarsson, Keiren Westwood, Freddy Eastwood and Clinton Morrison.

And Ranson believes the fans will be thrilled with the quality of this year's signings too.

He also urged supporters to get their season tickets ahead of the 2009/10 campaign, so the funds can help the investment in the squad.

He said: "We are talking all the time about players we can bring in and with the vast majority of summer business, we will stick to our principle of bringing in talented, young and hungry players that can all grow with the club.

"In players such as James McPake and David Bell, we believe we have a couple of players who will be like new signings because they haven't had a great deal of opportunity to show supporters what they can do yet because of injury.

"Chris has already stated that we'd like to get Jordan Henderson from Sunderland again but much of that will depend on their status next season.

"But there are one or two wide players on his 'most wanted' list because I think we have all seen this season that when we've had natural width, we have been at our best.

"It can never be a case of the manager saying these are the three or four players we want and that's it because transfer dealings are much more complex than they used to be - so we have several targets in several areas.

"Supporters will be really excited when they see the players we start to bring in.

"But we need the fans too. We are delighted with the response since we released season tickets and really want to see supporters taking advantage of the Early Bird offer to get to see us play for the best possible value.

"Very little of our transfer business will be done by May 24th so there is an element of supporters taking a leap of faith with us. We will do our utmost to repay that.

"Of course, every season ticket holder helps. Not only in terms of the financial investment in the club which will assist our summer business but in terms of the support they give to the players on the pitch."
