COLEMAN: We stayed strong
CITY boss Chris Coleman was delighted with the three points after Saturday's 1 - 0 victory over QPR and has praised the Sky Blues young defence for grinding out the result.
Speaking to Sky Blues World, Coleman said:
"There are a lot of positives and we'll be disappointed with some things in the second half but three points in this league is what it's all about.
"I was delighted with the first half. The second half? We got through it. It wasn't a great performance but we got through it, got the three points and kept the clean sheet.
"It's very dangerous to try and protect a one nil lead for 45 minutes. I think its fair to say that in the first five minutes (of the second half) we came out of the blocks really quickly, created one or two chances, but then for 35 - 40 minutes we sunk deeper and deeper trying to protect the one nil which is a dangerous game and it wasn't always pretty - we were defending for our lives at times.
"If we're going to do well in this league we are going to have games like that where you've got to grind it out. Most people could see what the three points meant to the players after the game. We stayed strong - stood up to it and we defended very very well at times.
"We've got a young defensive. Fox is 21. Osbourne - a midfielder playing at right back - is 21. Scott Dann, the captain, is 21. Elliot Ward is 23 and Westwood is 22 or 23.
"That's probably the youngest back four in the league and you forget about that."
