Coleman on crazy first week

Posted on: Wed 20 Aug 2008

COVENTRY City manager Chris Coleman has praised his squad for the professional way they have approached the first week of the season.

The Sky Blues have endured a baptism of fire after playing three fixtures over the first seven days of the season and Coleman says he is pleased with the way they have handled it.

"Three games in a week for me is crazy and I don't know why we do it," he said.

"We know we're going to play Saturday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday in the league but to have a cup game in the middle of the first week is barmy for me but then again who am I?"

The City boss though has been left delighted with the outcome of the first three games of the 2008/09 season with back-to-back league wins for the first time since the club was relegated from the Premier League in 2001 as well as a Carling Cup First Round win over Aldershot.

"We've dealt well with the fixtures and we approached the game against Aldershot in a professional manner. We wanted to win that game and keep it going and now we've won at Barnsley to add to the three points we got against Norwich despite not playing very well.

"Buy we're not going to get carried away. Last year Coventry were top of the table at the start of September I understand and we know what happened after that.

"But we will get fitter and better and the important thing is to keep picking points up."
