COVENTRY City returned to pre-season training today with manager Chris Coleman looking forward to putting his players through their paces - and to some wheeling and dealing in the transfer market.

City's players flew out for a week of training and conditioning in Austria this morning, and Coleman and chairman Ray Ranson are hoping to add to their summer signings.

They have already bought keeper Keiren Westwood from Carlisle, midfielder Guillaume Beuzelin from Hibernian and highly-rated Icelandic international Aron Gunnarsson from AZ.

The club were hoping to bring in Wolves striker Freddy Eastwood this week but the deal has collapsed due to Eastwood's contractual issues at Molineux.

But already City have turned their attention to former Birmingham City striker Clinton Morrison in their priority hunt to find a proven goalscorer at Championship level.

Morrison is out of contract at Crystal Palace despite bagging 16 goals for them last season.

Southampton's Polish striker Grzegorz Rasiak - who has scored 46 goals in 98 Championship appearances - is another player in City's sites and Ranson said they have always had several targets.

He said: "Having worked on the Eastwood deal for several months we are disappointed that we have not been able to make it happen.

"We had agreed all the terms both with Wolves and Eastwood's advisers but there was an issue with his existing contract at Molineux. We did everything we could but there were some things which were just out of our control.

"But as with the goalkeeping situation, Chris has a number of options in the various positions in the squad he would like to strengthen and we have made sure that we are pursing those options vigorously.

"I think everyone is just glad to be back in full swing now. We are delighted with the three players we have brought in - only Derby have made more additions to their squad at this stage - and it is always in July when the transfer activity begins to hot up.

"We think we are well placed to add to the squad with the calibre and type of players we want to bring in."
