Mifsud goal in contention

Posted on: Tue 15 Jan 2008

FA Cup 'Player of the Round' Michael Mifsud is in contention to make the shortlist for the Football League's Mitre Goal of the Year Award.

The Maltese international's brilliant individual goal away at Sheffield Wednesday in April (Goal C) was voted as City's best in 2007.

Last week the Football League announced that there will once again be a Mitre Goal of the Year category at the 2008 Football League Awards and asked all clubs to nominate one goal from any Football League competition in the 2007 calendar year.

Claiming 71% of the total votes, Mifsud was an overwhelming winner, beating off competition from Dele Adebola (v Southampton - Feb 20), Michael Doyle (v Preston - Sep 1), Stephen Hughes (v Ipswich - Sep 22) and from himself (v Plymouth - Jan 22).
