Manager Iain Dowie said he was delighted with the contribution of Jay Tabb after the midfielder scored City's winner against Cardiff this afternoon.

Tabb netted in the 35th minute of the match, with the Sky Blues holding on after Cardiff missed a 90th minute penalty.

"I think it's fitting that Jay scored the winning goal because for me he was the best player on the park by a mile," said Dowie after the game.

"He's worked really hard in training and he's the type of player who gives his all in every game.

"Jay is the kind of person you would want as a son not just as a footballer."

The Sky Blues' boss said that although he was delighted with the three points, he still felt there was more to come from the team.

"I'm not hiding behind the fact that in the first half we rode our luck and weren't good enough at times.

"But we defended resolutely and Dimi kept us in the match with a couple of good saves.

"I'm pleased they missed the penalty because I think that would have been harsh on us when we played so well in the second half."
