Leon Best reckons manager Iain Dowie will have a selection headache when it comes to picking his strike-force for Saturday's home clash with Hull.

The City forward netted his first goal for the club during Tuesday evening's 3-0 victory over Notts County in the Carling Cup with Dele Adebola and Robbie Simpson also on target.

Six of the Sky Blues' hit-men are now off the mark for campaign with just two games played - and Best believes competition for places in attack is stern.

"I think everybody did well against Notts County," Best told Sky Blues World. "All the strikers have a goal each now so there is good competition upfront.

"I had the goal disallowed in the first-half and then missed a couple of chances in the second so I was beginning to think the ball would never go in but it did eventually.

"I saw the 'keeper off his line and tried to hook the ball over him, he got a touch to the shot but luckily it still went in.

"We have a tough game coming up on Saturday against Hull and it would be great to play from the start again, but the strikers that played against Barnsley also did very well so the manager has a headache."

20-year-old Best, who joined the Sky Blues from Southampton during the summer, was born in Nottingham and began his career with Notts County before moving south.

That made his moment of glory especially sweet, and he was also keen to point out the role of fitness coach John Harbin in City's opening two fixtures.

He added: "It seems like I left Notts County a long time ago now but I still have memories from my time at the club and Nottingham is my home so it was nice to get a goal.

"I think its fair to say we probably had a little bit more than Notts County in terms of fitness and that was maybe the case against Barnsley as all the goals came later on in the second-half.

"That's definitely credit to John Harbin, he's worked us very hard and there were times during the game where I felt a little tired, but then the next minute I can feel a second wind kicking in."
