COVENTRY City made it six points out of a possible six with a 2-0 win over Barnsley at Oakwell.
Leon Best fired an unstoppable free-kick past ex-Sky Blues 'keeper Luke Steele on seven minutes and Clinton Morrison added a second and his third in two league games nine minutes from time to make sure the Sky Blues sat at the top of the Championship table.
The 22-year-old hitman fired a dead ball into the roof of Luke Steele's net from 19 yards after strike partner Clinton Morrison was felled by Tykes defender Luke Moore.
Barnsley were straight out of the gate with Daniel Bogdanovic getting to the goal line and putting in a cross with the game just seconds old although it gave City debutant Martin Cranie a chance to clear with his first touch.
Bogdanovic was through again five minutes later, chasing a ball over the top and getting the better of Stephen Wright to put in another cross at the line but this one was poor and went straight into the hands of Keiren Westwood.
But on seven minutes the Sky Blues delivered the early sucker punch when Best hammered home a set-piece from a yard outside the Tykes' penalty area.
A long ball to Clinton Morrison saw the City striker win a free-kick after a push from Darren Moore.
McIndoe, Clingan and Best all lined up for the dead ball but it was the Republic of Ireland international who took, firing straight down the middle into the roof of the net, leaving Barnsley 'keeper Luke Steele with no chance.
With the game not short of free-kicks, the next chance did not materialise until 11 minutes later when Sky Blues left-back Patrick van Aanholt's surging run almost unlocked the hosts' defence.
The Dutch Under 21 international took possession of the ball in his own half and did not give it up again until he had skipped past Stephen Foster and Bobby Hassell in the Barnsley penalty area, laying off for Sammy Clingan to fire a low cross across the face of goal which was just out of reach of the oncoming Best and Morrison.
Clingan went close with another free-kick ten minutes before the break, having a go from the corner of the Barnsley penalty area but curling his effort around the far post of Steele's goal.
City had to survive a late scare before the break though, Jon Macken firing in an early cross on the counter attack which Wright had to deal with, heading behind for a corner but only just the right side of Westwood's near post
Aron Gunnarsson got the Sky Blues' second half off to an encouraging start, picking up the ball in midfield and getting 20 yards out before firing a low shot just wide of the far post.
But the game changed for the hosts just before the hour mark when Robert Kozluk managed to get himself booked twice in the space of two minutes, first for a foul on Wright and the second for a rash challenge on Gunnarsson to earn him a red card.
Gunnarsson had a chance to make it 2-0 five mnutes later, chipping over Foster and Moore and chasing his own chip but slicing the resulting volley from ten yards out.
The Sky Blues put the result beyond doubt with nine minutes to go though, Isaac Osbourne delivering a superb deep cross at the back post for Morrison who tapped home the rebound past Steele for his third goal in two league games.
Young City substitute Shaun Jeffers almost scored his first senior goal four minutes from time, going one-on-one with Luke Stele but failing to turn the ball past the 'keeper at a tight angle.
And Morrison and Westwood combined at the other end deep into injury time to deny Foster a goal for the hosts, Westwood making a quick reaction save after Foster connected with Hammill's free-kick and Morrison clearing the loose ball off the line to protect\t the Sky Blues' clean sheet and ensuring City made it six points out of six.
