COVENTRY City ended their run of consecutive defeats in the Championship with a goalless draw at home to table-topping West Bromwich Albion.

A tense affair with little in the way of clear cut chances, the Sky Blues more than held their own against the league high fliers although neither team came particularly close to breaking the deadlock.

The Sky Blues started brightly when Clinton Morrrison whipped in a dangerous cross in the first few seconds of the game, a cross just a couple of yards too far ahead of the onrushing Freddy Eastwood.

Morrison actually caused a few problems with his deliveries from the wide right area, getting a second in after seven minutes after receiving a ball played down the channel from Michael McIndoe although Baggies 'keeper Scott Carson went to ground to gather the ball.

Baggies striker Luke Moore tried to find his range straight afterwards, firing from the edge of the Sky Blues area and straight at Keiren Westwood.

But on City's next counter attack Patrick van Aanholt, playing left side of midfield, floated a cross into the box for McIndoe which forced the wideman to clash with Carson as they went for the same ball.

Coventry 'keeper Westwood was substituted immediately afterwards, after picking up a suspected knock, and was replaced by Dimi Konstantopoulos.

But the City goalmouth was largely unthreatenedby the visitors who, despite a host of corners, failed to put in an effectively delivery.

Morrison put in another dangerous cross on 19 minutes, this time well timed for Eastwood who failed to steer his header goalwards.

On 26 minutes though, the Baggies had their best chance to open the scoring, Jerome Thomas getting behind Stephen Wright and heading goalwards on the goalline only for Konstantopoulos to block his shot from an acute angle at the near post.

Dimi was also called upon ten minutes before the break to first punch a corner clear and then recover to make a great stop from Graham Dorrans' half volley from the corner of the area.

Morrison was left waiting for a chance ten minutes after the break, a high popped up ball hanging in the air and only coming down when West Brom had time to gather their shape and clear the danger.

Isaac Osbourne went close for City six minutes after the hour mark with a long range effort that whistled past Carson's near post.

And Baggies substitute Phillipe Teixeira also got a shot on target, firing through bodies with the ball squirming its way into the hands of Konstantopoulos.

Konstantopoulos punted a ball almost the length of the field with nine minutes to go, McIndoe waiting underneath it in the Baggies penalty area to hit it first time but slicing it wide.

Carson was then forced into some acrobatics a minute later when City sub David Bell hit a first time cross into the area, forcing the Baggies shotstopper to dive and pick the ball out of the air.

West Brom replacement Chris Wood then had easily the best chance of the second period with five minutes to go, receiving the ball on the counter attack when the visiting attack outnumbered the Sky Blues backline although Konstantopoulos was quick off his line to make a great save.

Chris Coleman's side then piled on the pressure in four minutes added time, a period which also saw recent loan arrival Gary Madine make his first team debut butneither team could find a way through making it a second stalemate in consecutive home Midlands derbies for the Sky Blues.
