A late David Clarkson equaliser rescued a point for Bristol City against the Sky Blues.

City took the lead in the 46th minute after a superb long range volley from David Bell, but after a long period of pressure, Bristol broke through the solid Coventry defence.

Chris Coleman brought Clinton Morrison and Freddy Eastwood into the starting 11, in place of the departed Leon Best and Carl Baker.

Bristol were forced into a late change due to a Jamal Campbell-Ryce injury, but they didn't seem unsettled in an entertaining start to the game.

Campbell-Ryce's replacement, Evander Sno, was involved in the game's first chance when he showed good footwork to trick City's defenders and find Patrick Agyemang in the area, but his powerful shot went over the bar.

Bristol controlled the early play but the City defence stood strong to prevent any real opportunities.

In the 20th minute, Coleman changed the team's formation, going from 4-4-2 to a 3-5-2, with Stephen Wright and Michael McIndoe moving to wing-back positions.

Bristol continued to press and a long ball from Louis Carey in the 26th minute went over Richard Wood's head into the feet of Nicky Maynard in the area, but as he went to shoot a world class tackle from James McPake saved the day.

The home side had a good chance in the 32nd minute when a goalmouth scramble saw the ball spill out to Hartley with Keiren Westwood out of position - but his low shot was blocked well by the City keeper.

Bristol continued to push but resolute defending restricted their attempts on goal and City went into the break level.

When the game restarted, an early push from the Sky Blues changed the game - and gave City fans another Bell wonder goal to remember.

City broke towards the Bristol box in the 46th minute, with the ball finding its way to Sammy Clingan on the edge of the box. His shot bounced off a defender and Bell fired a superb volley into the bottom corner of the net to make it 1-0. Morrison seemed very excited - he was either claiming a touch or just delighted!

Bristol brought on two substitutes, Ivan Sproule and Danny Haynes, to try and launch a fightback and twice broke through into one-on-one situations. The first saw Westwood deny Haynes and Agyemang couldn't finish the loose ball. Next, Haynes burst through and rounded Westwood, but the keeper had pushed him wide and the angle was too tight for him to score.

Bristol's attacks continued but they were limited to half chances. But City looked to make it two and Morrison came close after beating his marker in the area and shooting across goal - a diving header from Lewin Nyatanga clearing the ball.

The pressure finally brought rewards for the home side in the 83rd minute. A ball into the box was knocked down by Louis Carey and substitute Clarkson coolly slotted home from eight yards.

Both sides tried to find the decisive goal but there were to be no more goals as City earned their third draw in a row.
