COVENTRY City picked up a well-earned point at a chilly Liberty Stadium after a solid performance which largely stifled a normally creative Swans outfit.
Both sides went close to opening the scoring in the first half when Darren Pratley struck the woodwork for the home side and Sammy Clingan went inches away with a trademark free-kick but neither side looked likely to break the deadlock in the second half.
Swansea created the first opportunity of the game when some neat interplay between Nathan Dyer and Gorka Pintado forced Coventry 'keeper Keiren Westwood to palm an acute pass-cum-shot over his bar after 11 minutes.
The Sky Blues were saved by the post seven minutes later though when Pratley's effort from just inside the Coventry area rattled off the foot of Westwood's crossbar.
Andrea Orlandi's cross from the left was originally intended for Dyer in the box but was cleared by Martin Cranie as far as Pratley who took the ball on his right foot only to see his shot bounce off the post and away.
Chris Coleman's side had their first effort at goal a minute later when Bell tried to test his range with a 30-yard effort he dragged well wide of Dorus de Vries' far post.
The Sky Blues went much closer on 24 minutes though when Clingan watched his dead-ball effort go inches wide.
Full City debutant Carl Baker was brought down 25 yards out which presented Clingan with an opportunity to go for goal, curling a shot around the wall but unfortunately also around the wrong side of de Vries' post.
Tom Butler should have done better for Swansea on 28 minutes, receiving the ball on the left and cutting inside before shooting straight at Westwood.
And Dyer proved a menace five minutes before half time with a run at goal that saw him beat two players before shooting at goal only to have his effort blocked behind by Richard Wood.
Both sides marked the start of the second half with substitutions, Leon Barnett replacing fellow defender James McPake for Coventry with Joe Allen replacing Jordi Gomez for the Swans.
Aron Gunnarsson came close to testing de Vries ten minutes into the second half with a stinging shot from 25 yards which flew just over the bar.
But the first effort of the second half on target came from the home side and supporters had to wait until the 78th minute for it, Angel Rangel closing down a ball headed clear from a corner and firing low through traffic at goal only for Westwood to dive low to his right at a stretch and collect the ball.
From there on the second half threw up a rare goalward effort but little on target.
The home side stirred up the Liberty Stadium crowd with a pair of corner kicks inside five minutes of added time only for the Sky Blues defence to remain sturdy throughout and protect a precious point away from home.
