A DRAMATIC injury time goal burst saw Coventry City defeated at Portman Road.
Richard Wood appeared to have salvaged a point for the Sky Blues when he headed home in the fourth minute of time added on but Pablo Counago scored within 20 seconds of the restart.
Earlier, Clinton Morrison had put Coventry in front in the third minute but goals from Stern John and Jack Colback but Ipswich in charge.
The Sky Blues had made two changes to the starting line-up following Tuesday's FA Cup defeat against Portsmouth.
Gary Deegan was handed a first start in midfield in place of Aron Gunnarsson while Freddy Eastwood was restored in attack, with Leon Best dropping to the bench.
And City made the perfect start to the game when, in the third minute, Eastwood sent Morrison clear and the striker shot from just outside the box and it lifted up and over Arran Lee-Barrett and went in via the post.
Ipswich came back into it but their first effort from Damien Delaney provided an easy save for Keiren Westwood.
In the 14th minute, the home side were denied an equaliser as Liam Rosenior burst into the box and shot goalwards but his strike was deflected wide by the heel of David Norris.
At the other end, Morrison came close to doubling his own and his team's tally when he swept a shot just wide of the post after good work from Deegan.
Clear-cut chances were few and far between as City's back-four defended stoutly and were blocking and heading clear, while Westwood was solid.
David Bell cracked a 35-yard volley that bounced off the wet surface in front of Lee-Barrett and he managed to keep the ball out with an untidy save in the 41st minute.
Just when it looked like the Sky Blues would make it through to half-time a goal in front, Ipswich struck back.
Liam Rosenior crossed into the middle of the area and former Coventry striker John headed down and past Westwood.
Ipswich took the lead straight after the break as Rosenior crossed low, Grant Leadbitter flicked to Jack Colback and fired low past Westwood from ten yards.
The Sky Blues began the fight back as Deegan hit a 63rd minute shot which Lee-Barrett saved at full stretch.
Then Morrison looked destined to score his second of the afternoon but was denied by the arm of the Ipswich keeper.
Coleman sent on all three substitutes in order to try to salvage a point but the Sky Blues struggled to threaten the Ipswich goal late on until Wood managed to divert Carl Baker's cross past Lee-Barrett deep into stoppage time.
But there was more drama to follow as Pablo Counago went one-on-one with Westwood and dinked the ball over the City keeper and into the net.
