THE Sky Blues registered their third win a row to continue their rise up the Championship table.
Jonathan Stead grabbed the only goal of the game in front of 3,126 travelling City fans to send the league's bottom club Peterborough to defeat.
The loan signing raced on to a long ball from Martin Cranie in the 23rd minute and showed good strength to see off the challenge of Craig Morgan before hammering past the helpless Joe Lewis in the Posh goal.
Clinton Morrison had a glorious chance to double the advantage in the second half, but took too long to pull the trigger and Lewis closed him down just in the nick of time.
Peterborough rarely troubled Keiren Westwood in the City goal, and came closest to scoring just before half-time when Charlie Lee rose to head Green's corner on to the bar.
The chance came immediately after City's James McPake flung himself at Tommy Rowe's shot to protect the visitors' slender advantage going into half-time.
The home side had started the brightest and came within a whisker of taking the lead within 11 seconds of the kick-off when Chris Whelpdale worked some space for himself before pulling his shot just wide of Westwood's right post.
The same player then had another sight of goal eight minutes in, but although his shot stung the hands of Westwood the Republic of Ireland 'keeper gathered easily at the second attempt.
Clinton Morrison had City's first effort on goal when his shot on the turn was deflected into the grateful hands of Lewis after four minutes.
At half-time Chris Coleman brought on Gary Deegan for Clingan, who had been struggling with a virus prior to the game, at the break and despite Peterborough continuing to huff and puff in the second half could not manage a shot on target.
Peterborough seemed to lose the momentum they had built up in the opening exchanges in the second half with City 'keeper Westwood rarely tested.
A good strike from Frecklington did however have the keeper worried in the 81st minute, but the effort dipped just over the bar.
That was as close as the home side came as City defended solidly to continue their excellent run of form.
