The Sky Blues show great character and determination to battle back from two goals down to grab a point against Wolves and virtually end the home side's slim play-off hopes.

A Stern John header and a stunning free kick by Gary McSheffrey were enough to secure a share of the spoils after Paul Ince and Colin Cameron had put Glenn Hoddle's men 2-0 up.

Micky Adams made two changes to the side that slipped to defeat to Preston at the Ricoh last Saturday, with Welsh international Richard Duffy and Stephen Hughes given starts at Molineux.

The start for Hughes is his first for three months with powerhouse forward Dele Adebola sacrificed, as City adopt an attacking four-three-three formation.

With barely 20 seconds on the clock City picked up their first booking of the game with Page entering referee Marriner's book for dissent, after Wise was adjudged to have brought down Frankowski 25 yards out.

From the resulting free-kick the evergreen Paul Ince managed to find the bottom right hand corner of Fulop's goal to give the home side an early lead.

With the home side in the ascendancy City were battling hard to get a foothold in the game Gary McSheffrey almost found himself in on goal only to be beaten by a nasty bobble.

Despite Wolves' one goal lead the home faithful were beginning to get restless as the Sky Blues started to get their game together, forcing Glenn Hoddle's men into unforced errors in the middle of the park.

On 18 minutes City were inches away from finding an equalizer, Stern John displaying some fantastic close control in the box before swiveling and putting the ball across the face of goal with Postma beaten.

With Micky Adams' men looking like forcing their way back into the clash Wolves doubled their advantage on 21.

The on-loan Arsenal forward Jeremie Aliadiere pouncing on a mistake by Richard Duffy before racing half the length of the pitch and laying the ball off with a smart back heel to Colin Cameron who swept the ball past Fulop into the far corner of the net.

In a game that was really starting to open up Trinidad and Tobago striker Stern John halved the deficit two minutes later with a header from a fantastic centre by Marcus Hall on the left flank.

It was a great finish by the World Cup bound forward who beat the Wolves defence to the ball to give City hope of a comeback against the play-off hopefuls.

The home side looked to have restored their two goal lead on 32 when the lively Frenchman Aliadiere turned smartly in the middle of the park before feeding Kennedy who hesitated and then smashed his shot against the upright.

Seol followed up but his effort was deflected wide of the target for a Wolves corner.

On 39 the fit-again Stephen Hughes was inches away from a leveler. City's captain found himself with space on the edge of the box before smashing a low shot the wrong side of the upright.

With the second half just three minutes old Micky Adams was forced into his first change of the game with the injured James Scowcroft being replaced by Dele Adebola.

On 55 Colin Cameron was almost played through on goal after a great pass from Paul Ince, but the Scottish midfielder couldn't get the ball under control.

On the hour mark Stephen Hughes was brought down by Joleon Lescott 25 yards from goal to give the Sky Blues an opportunity to test Postma.

With the Wolves wall lined-up McSheffrey stepped up and curled an exquisite left-footed free kick into the top corner to leave ex-Villa 'keeper Postma no chance.

With all the noise now coming from the traveling Sky Blue Army, Glenn Hoddle decided it was time to re-shuffle his pack bringing on Davies and Cort for Seol and the largely anonymous Frankowski.

Second half substitute Dele Adebola was proving to be a real handful for the Wolves defence as the former Palace man was working hard to find a winner for the Sky Blues.

On 78 Micky Adams made his second switch with Welsh defender Richard Duffy being replaced by Andy Whing to give City an added impetus down the right hand side.

Rohan Ricketts - who spent a spell on-loan at City last season - entered the fray with five minutes to go as the home side rolled their last dice in an attempt to keep their season alive.

City's last change saw midfielder Don Hutchison come on for the lively Gary McSheffrey.
