Thorn was offered the post after leading the club to safety as caretaker boss following the departure of Aidy Boothroyd

'Thorny', who had a top flight career with Crystal Palace, Wimbledon and Newcastle, joined the Sky Blues as chief scout from Everton, a post he held for three seasons before stepping up to take the reins at the Ricoh Arena in his first managerial post.
