COVENTRY City Under 18s finally managed to pick up their first win of 2010 thanks to strikes from Adam Walker and substitute Rob Ogleby.

Walker handed the Sky Blues the lead just moments after the interval and Ogleby came off the bench to grab a second for Gregor Rioch's side with 15 minutes to go.

City started off brightly and almost went ahead early on when defender Nathan Cameron steered a header over the bar from Jacob Blackwell's deep corner.

Blackwell went close himself a few minutes later when Walker broke down the left flank and delivered a pinpoint cross for his fellow midfielder to head back across the box and goalbound, only to watch the ball bounce off the far post and into the home 'keeper's hands.

Connor Grogan had to watch as his effort midway through the first half was also denied by the woodwork, his long-range effort cannoning off the underside of the crossbar and bouncing away to safety.

For all their possession and chances it could have been the hosts to have taken a lead into the break when they saw an effort of their own also ricochet off the bar.

Walker gave the Sky Blues' their just rewards two minutes into the second half though, sending a 25-yard screamer into the Robins net off the underside of the bar.

A galvanised City side then wrapped the game up on 75 minutes when Ogleby came off the bench to produce an excellent bit of individual skill to wrap up the points, breaking down the flank cutting inside the full-back to his right and curling an effort over and around the Bristol City 'keeper to nestle in the top corner.

Manager Rioch said: "It's great to see the boys finally get a win this year because it's probably been the first time in a very long time where the result has match the lads' effort and performance.

"It's all about confidence at the age these lads are playing at and so many times this season we have produced some excellent football and not come away with what we have deserved so I'm delighted to see things go their way.

"The conditions were extremely difficult with it being very wet so it's encouraging to see the players perform despite that, and that includes goalkeeper Michael Quirke who made a couple of superb saves to keep Bristol out despite the conditions making it extra difficult for him.

"Full credit to the lads because this result has been a long time coming."
