RIOCH: Looking forward to football
COVENTRY City Academy manager Gregor Rioch says he is looking forward to some football this weekend after his Under 18s side have gone more than a month without kicking a ball in anger.
Rioch's youngsters have been training hard at the club's youth training facility at the Alan Higgs Sports Centre in Binley but the recent cold snap has hampered their ability to restart their season after the Christmas break.
The Sky Blues have had their last three games postponed because of bad weather but Rioch is hoping they can get back to business on Saturday when they travel to Tottenham Hotspur.
"It's obviously difficult with the weather because all the lads want to do is get out and play," he said.
"For some of the boys they are approaching the later stages of their academy years and want to get as much football in as possible to prove they have what it takes to progress to first team football so to have games postponed because of the weather is frustrating.
"There are no signs yet that the game tomorrow is in any danger though and the lads are looking forward to going to Spurs because we have enjoyed some great clashes with them in the last couple of years and the two academies have developed a very good relationship as a result.
"We just hope we can get our own 2010 off to a positive start."
