COVENTRY City Under 18s picked up another pre-season win in their penultimate friendly of their preparations with a one-goal win away to Crewe Alexandra.

Wide midfielder Joel Grandison notched up the only goal of the game to hand the Sky Blues the win, giving them an extra boost of confidence going into their final pre-season friendly at home to Charlton Athletic on Saturday, August 15.

Gregor Rioch's side kick off their 2009/10 Premier Academy League campaign on August 22 and Rioch said he believes his squad are on track to be in peak physical condition for their season opener away to Huddersfield Town.

"The boys were excelllent against Crewe," Rioch said.

"It was another impressive performance on the back of the display at Neath which was magnificent and it keeps us on track for the start of the season when the boys should be at their peak."
