COVENTRY City Under 18s got their 2009/10 pre-season preparations off to a fine start on Friday with a 2-1 comeback win over Walsall at Lilleshall Hall.
Gregor Rioch's side fell behind to a first-half deflected goal but a second-half brace from Rob Ogleby handed the Sky Blues the win in their first match of pre-season.
Goalkeeper Michael Quirke was unlucky to be beaten by a deflected effort in the first half but underlined his potential with a superb one-on-one save straight after the break.
Ogleby then fired home from Joel Grandison's cross to the level the score in the second half befoire slotting home from a tight angle for his second of the game.
Rioch said: "We looked a bit ring rusty but there was always a chance of that with it being the first pre-season game back.
"It's been mostly physical work just lately and we've not really concentrated on shape yet so that, mixed with a bit of excitement from the lads to be playing again, made for a bit of an erractic opening few minutes.
"But we soon settled down and played some good football which was pleasing."
