'The trialists impressed me' - Pressley

24 July 2013

City boss Steven Pressley believes the three trialists did well despite the 2-0 defeat at Fleetwood...

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley was impressed by the trialists performance after the 2-0 loss at Fleetwood Town.

Mathieu Manset, Fabio Martins and former Morton defender Craig Reade all started for the Sky Blues as late goals from David Ball and Antoni Sarcevic secured the win for the Cod Army.

Having played a number of Academy products during the match, Pressley was able to see plenty of positives despite the defeat.

The City boss said: "Up until the final 10 minutes where we conceded the two goals, I think we controlled much of the game and used the ball well.

"We found a lot of joy down the right side and it was a shame we couldn't convert one of the chances we created. There was a lot of impressive performances out there and I think we conceded the goals because we didn't react quick enough to the changes we made.

"We had a few trialists out there today and I was impressed with what I saw. I think 'Mani' (Mathieu Manset) did well as we asked him to stretch their defence and he did that.

"I was really impressed with Craig Reade, I thought he was outstanding. He put himself about and put in a lot of effort which is exactly what you want to see.

"He has done himself the world of good as he is obviously without a club at the moment but certainly, we have been very impressed with him.

"Fabio (Martins) showed glimpses of his quality and I felt he grew into the game so hopefully we will be able to see more of him in the next two pre-season matches."

With the Fleetwood game being the second of four pre-season matches this week, Pressley also praised the fitness of the squad.

He added: "We looked extremely fit and a lot of our players are having to play a full 90 minutes because we are a bit thin on the ground.

"We will have to manage them through the next two games but I am sure they will stand up to the test."
