Coventry City boss Tony Mowbray has denied that there is an anxiety in the players when they play at home ahead of tonight's crucial League One clash with Leyton Orient at the Ricoh Arena.
The Sky Blues have won their last three games away from home against Chesterfield, Fleetwood and Peterborough but are yet to win at home under Mowbray, with the last win at the Ricoh coming against MK Dons back in February.
But Mowbray believes that once the side consistently start to cut out the sloppy mistakes, the wins will come consistently at home.
“No I don’t think there is an anxiety in the players,” Mowbray said.
“I think the overall match day experience is different at home, we have a 32,000 seater with 8,500 or so fans spread out. Generally teams bring 1000 fans who are sitting next to each other, making a lot of noise in a confined space, but our fans are spread out.
“Of course the pitch is not conducive but we have to overcome that, we can't say that every week.
“Once we get that first win, hopefully we can find the answers to stay solid and stop the soft goals, which is why we’ve not won at home.
“Once we stop those errors, I’m confident we can win consistently at home.”
City currently sit four points above Leyton Orient in the League One table with the O’s occupying one of the four relegation slots despite a weekend win over Port Vale.
Mowbray doesn’t know how Orient are in the bottom four and expects a tough game tonight, but one which he and the squad are relishing to help push them further away from the drop-zone.
“I’m just looking at it game-by-game, there are still enough games to go before that.
“But I am conscious that Orient are a good team, I’m really not sure why they are where they are.
“I haven’t studied their season but we’ve got to be mindful of our last three games at home and get more reward for our effort.
“We shouldn't take anything for granted. I’m not a betting man but the footballers they have they are strong enough not to finish in the bottom four, they’re decent side, it will be a tough test but one we look forward to.
“We have to relish the challenge, we’ve beaten teams in and around top six away from home of late so we take great confidence into the game.”
