The City boss also praised the impact of the Ricoh Arena crowd in the second half as City draw 2-2 against the Shrimpers...

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray cut a frustrated figure after his side were held to a 2-2 draw against Southend United.

Reda Johnson opened the scoring before goals from Noel Hunt and David Mooney before the break turned the tide.

Jim O'Brien missed a second-half penalty but skipper Ricketts nodded in with just over 15 minutes to play to maintain City's unbeaten home record so far this season.

Southend keeper David Bentley performed several heroics to secure the away side a point and Mowbray believed his team deserved better.

The City boss said: "I'm disappointed for the players and the fans we didn't get three points. You can't get out of leagues playing such open football like we did in the first half.

"It probably made for a good spectacle and I can imagine it was extremely entertaining but it was an opportunity missed tonight.

"Moving forward, we need to be playing like we did in the second half. We pinned them back for long periods and played the game in their half.

"Their keeper made a brilliant last-ditch save to give them a point. Overall, they probably deserved a point and last season, I think it's fair to say we would have lost that game."

The result takes the Sky Blues up to fifth position in the League One table after five games and they travel to Burton Albion next Sunday, a game which is live on Sky.

He added: "Ten points from five games, if you do that over 46 matches, you're in with a great shout of promotion. Let's keep going.

"Both goals we conceded were really disappointing as we've worked a lot on set pieces. We wanted to sure that area of our game up after last season.

"The fans were brilliant once again. They lifted the team in the second half and the noise coming across from the bank of supporters was absolutely brilliant.

"A really good attendance as well and it would be great to keep that up. We want to keep the entertainment high but stop the goals going into our net."
