Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray is 'very hopeful' he can extend Adam Armstrong's stay at the Sky Blues.
The 19-year old striker has had a wonderful season with the Sky Blues so far, notching 16 goals to make him the League One top-scorer.
Armstrong's loan ends after the Burton Albion game at the weekend and the club have been working hard to extend the deal for some time with interest from Championship clubs.
Mowbray hopes the deal can be done soon and says he is feeling positive about the deal.
The City boss said: "It’s looking pretty hopeful, one or two things need to be ratified but I’d be pretty disappointed if it didn’t happen now.
"Hopefully in the next day or two. There are still a few things to iron out and get through and it's just about making sure it gets over the line at this stage.
"Mark Venus is dealing with that and we’re very hopeful in the face of what I would have to say is a lot of competition from Championship clubs offering to pay a lot of money for his services.”
If City can get the deal over the line, it will be the fifth deal the Sky Blues have completed in the January transfer window as Mowbray has already signed Stephen Hunt, Andy Rose, Peter Ramage and Joe Cole this month.
Hunt signed a short-term contract on Friday evening and Mowbray has explained the motives behind the deal for the 34-year old.
He explained: "My phone rang one night when I was watching the telly and it was Stephen Hunt. Not his advisors or agents or third party people, but him.
"He asked if he could come and train. I agreed to let him come in and told him there wouldn’t be a deal there because we were pretty overloaded in the wide areas.
"I have to say he was a bundle of energy, very talented with the ball and can pick passes that some of our younger boys couldn’t even think about, let alone see.
"He's a short-term contract now to get up to speed and see if he can make a difference, it made sense.”
