Second half not acceptable

City boss gives no-nonsense verdict on stalemate with Bury

Coventry City boss Andy Thorn branded the Sky Blues' second half display in their 2-2 home draw with Bury as 'unacceptable'.

City were two goals to the good at half time after a stunning Adam Barton strike and a superb Carl Baker free kick but they surrendered their advantage after the break as a David Healy penalty and a header from substitute Lenell John-Lewis gave the Shakers a share of the spoils.

Thorn said: "As well as we played in the first half, we were just as bad in the second. Individually we were poor and we've sat down in the dressing room and I've told the lads it's not good enough.

"Their goals were from two really poor bits of defending and we went from domination the first half of a footbal match to going the other way.

"I know some of the lads are new but it's not an excuse. I have standards I want to get to and today was just not acceptable when you give goals away like that.

"We told the players what to do at half time, what to expect, we know they would come out second half and match us up and have a right go and we needed to be solid but we weren't , we were weak.

"We are better than that and we proved that in the first half but the second half just was not acceptable.

"I want to get promoted and so does everyone else and to do that you need to win games like this one. It's alright saying we're still unbeaten and I know it's still early doors in the season but you have to set standards and second half we didn't and to get to where we want to be you have to turn games like these into victories."
