City midfielder signs new deal which keeps him at the club until 2016

Coventry City midfielder Conor Thomas has signed a new deal which keeps him at the club until 2016.

The 20-year-old penned an extension to his current contract which sees him commit his future to the Sky Blues for the next two-and-a-half years.

Thomas has been a mainstay in central midfield for Steven Pressley's side this season, having made 18 appearances so far to add to other 44 appearances he has made for the first team over the course of the previous three seasons.

The Coventry-born midfielder made his competitive first team debut for the Sky Blues in a 2-1 home FA Cup third round win over Crystal Palace in January 2011.

Manager Steven Pressley said he was delighted at the youngster's decision to stay with his hometown club.

"Conor is a blueprint for the kind of young players we want to develop at this club," Pressley said.

"He's extremely talented, he's dedicated and he has a very bright future as he's shown in the way he has performed for us this season.

"He works just as hard off the pitch as he does on it and he's a fine example to other young players hoping to progress through the club's ranks. I'm delighted he has committed his future to us.

"Conor has really taken hold of the style and philosophy of football that we want to promote here."
