Sky Blues boss pleased with the 'excellent' attitude and application shown by his players in friendly win over AS Roma B

Coventry City boss Steven Pressley praised the attitude and application of his players as they kicked off their pre-season tour of Italy with a 2-0 win over AS Roma B in Trentino.

Goals from new signings Shaun Miller and Danny Pugh's free kick handed City their first win of pre-season with respective strikes in each half and Pressley said the performance said the performance was the polar opposite of the team's showing at Nuneaton on Saturday.

Pressley said: "The attitude of the players was excellent. The main aspects that I look for in terms of the intensity and the high press were evident and I was really pleased with the way they applied themselves in very difficult conditions.

"The rain was constant which obviously made it a challenge for both teams who I thought coped very well in the circumstances but from my point of view, we got everything out of the game that I wanted.

"The main motivation in pre-season of course is not winning games, it's to be ready for the start of the season. But winning and keeping clean sheets breeds confidence and that's also very important. We're not going to get ahead of ourselves, we're still and way off where we want to be come the first game of the new season, but the attitude of the group has been great."

Pressley also spoke of his delight at the strikes from two of his summer signings.

"Shaun Miller showed great movement and awareness and you have to mention Jim O'Brien because it was an excellent pass. Shaun's movement was equal to that though and he produced a very composed finish.

"I was just as pleased with Danny's strike. It was an excellent free kick from 20 yards but that's just one of the attributes we identified when trying to bring him here. His delivery from set plays is fantastic and it was good to see them both get on the scoresheet."
