The City boss has also revealed that they will now take great momentum into Friday's return to the Ricoh Arena....

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has praised the maturity of the young players after the 1-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers.

The Sky Blues secured their second-round berth in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after Josh McQuoid half-volleyed home in the 66th minute.

City fielded a young side for the game at Adam's Park and ended the match with nine out of the 11 players a City Academy product, with current Academy players James Maddison and Kyle Spence coming on as substitutes in the second-half.

Having seen his side go five games unbeaten, the City boss believes the future at the club is bright and has praised his defence for keeping a clean sheet.

Pressley said: "Going into the game, we knew it would be a difficult test as they've had a great start to the season and it proved to be the case.

"It was a great goal to win the game and it epitomised the type of football we like to play here. Quick, sharp, counter-attack football which was brilliant.

"We brought on Maddison and Spence in the second-half which meant there was nine out of the 11 Academy products on the pitch.

"It shows how we are building for the future around our Academy and the signs are good. You could how proud the fans are seeing young players playing for the club."

On Friday, City return to the Ricoh Arena to face Gillingham with a large crowd expected to welcome the club home.

Pressley admitted he will finally allow himself to concentrate on the return to the Ricoh Arena and believes it will be a great occasion.

He added: "I can't wait to go back there and Friday night will be a special night. One to remember and it's looking like we could sell out which would be incredible.

"I did say though that we wanted to return there with momentum and we're currently five games unbeaten, and look extremely solid at the back.

"A lot of players made a case to start against Gillingham on Friday and I'm sure everyone will want to be involved.

"We're all excited by it but we've got to make sure we play the game and not the occasion. It is a game we will be focused on winning."
