'Key errors are killing us' - Pressley

11 March 2014

...but Sky Blues boss still immensely proud of his ten-man side after they come so close to fighting back in defeat to Gillingham

Coventry City boss Steven Pressley said although he was immensely proud of his side and the way they performed despite being a man down in their 4-2 defeat to Gillingham, they need to cut out key errors which are costing them goals.

A dramatic encounter saw referee Darren Sheldrake award two penalties to each side.

Adebayo Akinfenwa netted the first penalty which saw a red card for City defender Dan Seaborne after a foul on Cody McDonald.

The Sky Blues levelled with a Callum Wilson penalty but Myles Weston's header gave the Gills their lead back.

Akinfenwa then scored a second penalty which was cancelled out by a City spot kick from Carl Baker but Jake Hessenthaler netted a fourth for the hosts to extinguish any comeback from City.

Pressley said: "I think the team performance was brilliant but we keep talking about key moments because even with ten men we were the dominant team.

"Our desire to make things work was terrific and at 1-1 there was only one team going to win the game but then we go and concede from a long throw. These goals arre killing us because we're so much better than that.

"I was really proud with the effort of the players but key moments and decision making cost us dearly tonight.

"I was really pleased with our application but we have to cut out key mistakes because alot of the work we're doing is excellent work. We're getting dragged down a bit and I understand that but I was brought wanting to develop our own players.

"You can either throw money at something or you can do what we want to do whihc is develop our own young players. The only thing when you do that is you have indifferent periods like the one we're going through just now but one thing we're sure of is the direction we want to go, we have belief in what we're doing and make no mistake that this is just a blip in what will be great progress in the club."
