Sky Blues boss says his players need to tighten up at set pieces if they are going to achieve this season
Coventry City boss Steven Pressley said he felt it was two points dropped after the Sky Blueds had to settle for a share of the spoils after a 2-2 draw with Barnsley at Sixfields.
City twice took the lead, first through Josh McQuoid's early first goal for the club and then Jordan Clarke just before half time.
Barnsley hit back twice though through Conor Hourihane's free kick and then Leroy Lita's header on the stroke of the break to give Danny Wilson's men a point.
Pressley said: "I thought the players' committment to the game was terrific as was their energy at times but it was disappointing not to win the game because I thought we merited the victory.
"It's two points dropped really and if we are serious about achieving this season then these are the game we need to win."
Sky Blues supporters voiced their displeasure at seeing Lita's equaliser go in in the fourth of three initial minutes of added time and while Pressley acknowledged that he said he side need to defend corners no matter what point they are in the game.
"Their second equaliser was certainly beyond the recommended added time but we still have to be able to defend the corner. We've been undone by a special free kick and a corner which have ended up being the difference between three points and one point.
"That's disappointing because I thought on the whole we defended very well but set plays are vital in the modern game and it's an area we struggled in last season and I want to see improvement this season."
The City boss added though that he was pleased to see McQuoid get off the mark and delighted that Clarke's first goal of the season marked a trend of players from other areas of the pitch getting on the scoresheet.
"I'm pleased for Josh and Jordan. Josh has really applied himself and bought into our work ethic but like any striiker he wants to score goals so I'm pleased he's gotten off the mark.
"I spoke prior to the season about contributions from all areas of the field because I felt last season we were too dependent on certain players so it's been pleasing where our goals have come from in recent weeks.
"Jim O'Brien got one on Saturday, Reda Johnson got two on the opening day and now Jordan Clarke has one and that's the type of contribution I want."
