Sky Blues in the Community and Coventry Community Responders, our nominated charity for the 2014/15 season, will be presented with cheques for £1,000 each at half-time in our game against Crewe tomorrow.
The money comes from the FA Community Shield Fund, which is distributed evenly to all 124 clubs that competed in The FA Cup 2013/14 (1st Round proper onwards). The funds raised by the FA
Community Shield are for community based initiatives and distribution follows the following process:
· The funds available for distribution include the general admission ticket income net of match expenses and all profits from the sale of the match programme.
· The 2014 FA Community Shield contribution to the fund amounted to 44% of the total match income.
· Each of the 124 eligible clubs is allocated an equal section of the fund to donate to community initiatives of its choice.
· The remainder of the fund is donated to The FA Charity Partners, as well as the World War I centenary commemorations. Breast Cancer Care was chosen by the FA, and will their charity partner until July 2016. Additional FA charity partners who have received donation from the fund have been The Bobby Moore Fund, The Bobby Robson Foundation and Homeless Football Association.
The cheques for Coventry City’s chosen recipients will be presented at half-time on Saturday to Guy Rippon and David Busst, Directors of Sky Blues in the Community, and Gary Edwards of the Coventry Community Responders.
