Coventry City have signed Dagenham and Redbridge midfielder Jodi Jones on an emergency loan deal, with a view to a permanent deal.

The Sky Blues have snapped up the talented 18-year old on an emergency loan deal until the end of the season with a permanent deal agreed in principle for the summer.

Jones came through the ranks at the Dagenham and Redbridge Academy and has immediately impressed since making his Football League debut in February 2015 at the age of 17.

Since his debut for the Daggers, he has made 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals, including three this season against Notts County, Barnet and Exeter City.

Jones will train with the Under-21s squad over the weekend and could feature for the Sky Blues on Monday at Ashton Gate as the Under-21s face Bristol City.

City boss Tony Mowbray said: "We're delighted to get this deal over the line and I'm looking forward to working with Jodi.

"He is a player we've tracked for some time and we've been really impressed by his performances for Dagenham and Redbridge at such a young age.

"He's got great potential and we'll be looking to develop that over his time with the club like we've been able to do with our young players this season.

"Whilst he might not impact the first-team immediately, this is a deal we've done with one eye on the future as we look to build a brighter future for this club."

Technical Director Mark Venus said: "We were alerted to Jodi's ability and potential some time ago, and we've tracked his progress since.

"We've decided to bring Jodi in now on an emergency loan to work with the squad and enjoy the set-up we've got at the club now, looking to make it a permanent deal in the summer.

"I've always stated that as a club, we need to be constantly looking at the squad we're building for the future to make us more competitive in future seasons.

"This deal also shows the club's ability to attract young and talented players despite interest from plenty of other clubs due to the belief in the project we're building here."
