Coventry City midfielder Ivor Lawton has signed a new one-year deal with the Sky Blues.

The 19-year old Academy graduate was a regular fixture in the Under-21s side last season and was the captain for the majority of his appearances.

Lawton, who can play both in defence and central midfield, has been with the Sky Blues for 13 years after being spotted as a six-year old playing for Mount Nod and will be hoping to make his first-team debut for his boyhood club this season.

City boss Tony Mowbray was pleased to see the home-town midfielder sign his new deal and praised Lawton's passion and commitment to the football club.

Mowbray said: "Ivor earned his new deal with his drive, passion and conviction.

"It's a big season for him, there are things I need to work on with him but one thing you cannot take away from him is his desire to succeed and his geniune love for the club.

"I hope he can push on to the first-team fold, when he’s required he needs to be ready so the day he gets on the pitch at the Ricoh Arena and plays in our first team he can make an impact."
