There have been several players over the years who have turned out for both Coventry City and Scunthorpe United.Ahead of Tuesday's SkyBet League One fixture at Glanford Park we highlight three players who have connections with both clubs, starting with a player who was part of the Sky Blues' finest ever day...
Keith Houchen
A name that will forever be remembered with City's FA Cup win in 1987, he scored probably the most famous goal ever by a City player when he flung himself at Dave Bennett's cross to equalise in the final with an iconic diving header.
However Houchen was initially at a number of clubs, such as Hartlepool, Leyton Orient and York, before transferring to Scunthorpe in 1986.
After three months at the Iron, John Sillett discovered the forward playing in a reserve game, and ultimately signed him for £60,000.
After the FA Cup win, Houchen struggled to remain in the team, and left to join Hibernian in 1989 for £325,000. After a spell at Port Vale, he retired at Hartlepool, the same club where he started his career. However his name will always remain synonymous with the Sky Blues, and the FA Cup.
Gary Mcsheffrey
In line to start for the Iron against his hometown club, McSheffrey will be warmly received by the visiting Sky Blue Army on Tuesday.
Coming through the City academy, McSheffrey made 143 appearances across eight years, scoring an impressive 44 goals from the left wing. After netting 17 in 2005/06, his signature was coveted by a number of teams. Ultimately he signed for Birmingham, for a fee around four million pounds.
He never maintained a regular place, and had loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Leeds. In 2010 he came back to City, and spent another three years with the Sky Blues, scoring a further 17 goals.
McSheffrey joined the Iron in January, and has impressed so far this season, scoring twice and being ever present so far.
Leon Clarke
Scoring goals has always been a big part of Clarke's game, and he holds a unique record when in 2012/13 he scored the winner for Scunthorpe against City, before scoring the winner for City against Scunthorpe a few months later!
Over the years the nomadic striker has played for 15 Football League clubs, and whilst at Charlton in 2012 he was loaned to the Iron. After an impressive spell where he scored 11 goals in 15 games he was signed by the Sky Blues on a free transfer the following year.
Whilst at City, Clarke enjoyed the best spell of his career. He scored 23 goals in 34 appearances, enjoying a prolific partnership with Callum Wilson.
Ultimately Clarke joined Wolves in January for an undisclosed fee. He was part of the squad that won League One last season, and is now looking to break into the first team at his hometown club.
