The Supporters' Consultative Group will now have a representative present at future Coventry City board meetings
The Coventry City Supporters’ Consultative Group (SCG) – the Sky Blues fans’ representative body – is to play a part in the club’s board meetings.
The group, which represents a cross section of supporters and supporters’ organisations, includes club volunteers and leading members of the Sky Blue Trust, Coventry City London Supporters’ Club, Diamond Club and others. It meets on a monthly basis and forms the link between club and fans.
The SCG, chaired by Jonathan Strange, played a part in helping to bring the club back to the city last month.
It will now sit in on main club board meetings every quarter to raise supporters’ issues at the top level.
Coventry City chairman Tim Fisher said the new arrangement would give supporters access to decision making on major issues.
He said: “The SCG has played a very useful roll over the last few years and particularly over the last 18 months or so.
“We are very keen to see that evolve which is why we have agreed that it should have representation at board meetings.
“The idea is that the SCG will discuss strategic issues at its monthly meetings and will then bring them to board meetings on a quarterly basis.
“The detailed operational items will still be agreed at its regular monthly meetings which are attended by senior club staff members.
“Which members of the SCG attend the board meeting is up to them, but will be dependent on which topics are being covered.
“They will then report back to their fellow supporters to show clear transparency in the way the board meetings operate. We have felt for a long time now that it was only right that supporters had a place at the boardroom table and the time is right to make that happen.”
Jonathan Strange said: “This is a historic development, unknown at most clubs. It is an opportunity for supporters to really make a difference, to help steer wider strategy, challenge policies and address a wide variety of issues.
