In support of International Women’s Day, the Sky Blues in the Community and their ‘In it Together’ project featured at half-time against Rochdale at the weekend...
Ladies from ‘In it Together’ took part in a demonstration in front of the 10,000 fans inside the Ricoh Arena, exhibiting ‘boxfit’ and promoting general fitness.
The project provides a range of free activities and fitness opportunities for women at a number of community centres across Coventry. The sessions are informal, with no commitment or cost involved to participants.
The project also provides free after-school fitness activities for young women aged 14-19 at secondary schools across Coventry - engaging over 120 young women in the first two months of the project.
International Women’s Day, which is held on March 8th annually, is marked by thousands of events globally to inspire and empower women.
The theme of 2016’s celebration is ‘Pledge for Parity’, encouraging everyone to take a pledge to help achieve a better grade of gender equality.
Aims: Help women and girls achieve their ambitions, address gender-balanced leadership, promote respect and value difference, develop more inclusive and flexible cultures, reduce workplace bias.

The weekly (female only) sessions, are in their first year of development and are funded by Sport England and Public Health Coventry. They take place at John White Community Centre, Daimler Green Community Centre, St Augustine’s Sport Centre and Tile Hill Wood Leisure Centre in Coventry.
Kim Dougherty, Sky Blues in the Community Health Coordinator, said: “It was great for the girls and ladies to be able to showcase ‘In it Together’ at the game. It is a new project which is aimed at increasing participation and physical activity among women, and we hope that those who saw the demonstration at the game will be inspired to come along and give it a go in a fun and sociable environment.”
