In an unprecedented first, Sky Blues in the Community won the same award at last year's event for the young people's Kicks project...

Sky Blues in the Community were celebrating on Thursday evening after winning the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Sports ‘Community Project of the Year’ gong at the CSW Sports Awards.

The CSW Sports Awards – celebrating their 10th anniversary - is a celebration of sporting achievement and excellence in the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire area.

The event consists of 16 award categories, with the Sky Blues team picking up the award which recognises a sport or physical activity project, which uses innovative approaches to improve health and enhance the quality of life and participation levels of the people in Coventry, Solihull or Warwickshire.

In an unprecedented first, Sky Blues in the Community won the same award at last year’s event for the young people’s Kicks project.

This year, the team were nominated for the ‘Impact’ project, which offers free and subsidised sports and arts activities for residents of the Forbes Estate area in Warwick.

Funded by Warwick District Council, ‘Impact’ delivers sessions six days a week for local Forbes estate residents from the ages of 2 to over 60’s. There are a range of activities on offer, including football, multi-sports, tennis, dance, boxing, dodgeball, circuit training, tai chi, pilates and yoga.

Councillor Sue Gallacher – portfolio holder for Cultural Services at Warwick District Council said: ‘Warwick District Council are delighted that the Impact Project has been recognised at a sub–regional level at the CSW Sports Awards.

“The Team at Sky Blues in the Community have worked very hard to provide a range of opportunities for residents of the Forbes Estate Warwick to participate in sport and physical activity. We look forward to continuing our partnership working with SBitC going forward with this project.”

Guy Rippon, Director of Sky Blues in the Community said “We are very proud to have won the Community Project of the Year award for the second year running. We have a dedicated staff team of Kim Dougherty, Jonnie Hardie, Paul Rose and Nathan Reynolds who work tirelessly to deliver ‘Impact’ activities throughout the week.

“We try to work very closely with a number of local facilities, sports clubs and other community organisations to ensure there is a coordinated approach to the project, where as many local people and organisations as possible can benefit, so this is a real team effort.

“We are particularly thankful to Warwick District Council who fund the project and have continuously supported us since its inception. We are really looking forward to working with WDC to see how we can continue to deliver and grow the Impact project concept over the coming years.”
