"To be disappointed by our points total is a good sign, but ten points from five games is good." Coventry City's Sam Ricketts

The Sky Blues captain talks about the value of set pieces, his goal and the points tally here...

Coventry City captain Sam Ricketts was pleased the side scored from two set pieces in the 2-2 draw against Southend.

Reda Johnson netted in the first half following a corner while Ricketts netted his first for the club directly from Jim O'Brien's corner deep into the second-half.

The 33 year-old believes that City deserved more from the game based on their second-half display and feels that the Sky Blues had the chances to get three points.

"I was just talking to Reda, he took his first goal very well," Ricketts said.

"We do work on set pieces with Jamie Clapham and Oggy and it's important that we score a few goals from them as they are an important part of the game. They got us back in the game today, it was a simple goal from me and I thought from that point on we should have got three points.

"We're still trying to digest the game, we didn't play as well as we have been doing, we set those standards very highly. But the second-half we did more of the right things and we had the better of the chances, their keeper made a few good saves, we missed the penalty and had a few chances.

"I was right behind the save in the final minute, I thought Tuggy was going to score, the same as Rochdale, but it was a great save and not meant to be."

The result leaves City with ten points from the opening five fixtures and Ricketts believes that total is a good sign for the Sky Blues.

He added: "To be disappointed by out points total is a good sign.

"There's still a lot more football to be played, but it has been a really good start. If you'd have asked anyone, they'd have said ten points from five games is good. It's two points per game and that over the course of the season may be good enough for promotion. Of course it's early, but overall we've started well."
