Coventry City goalkeeper Ryan Allsop has revealed captain Reda Johnson apologised to the players after the 2-1 defeat at Scunthorpe United.
The Sky Blues went ahead when Frank Nouble slotted home in the 17th minute but a straight red card for Reda Johnson midway through the first half gave the Iron the advantage.
The home side got level in the 36th minute when former City midfielder Gary McSheffrey crossed for Paddy Madden to find the bottom corner and Lyle Taylor headed home two minutes after the hour to give the Iron all three points.
The result ended City's seven-game unbeaten run and keeper Allsop admitted he was disappointed to lose the game, even with ten men.
The City keeper said: "It's tough to take as it's a place we thought we could come to and get the three points but circumstances went against us.
"I didn't see anything of the incident as I was in possession at the time but it was a crucial moment in the game. Reda has apologised to the team and it was a mistake.
"Everyone makes mistakes, he'll learn from it and we'll move on as a team. We were fully in control before the sending off but these things happen in football.
"It was up to us to defend the lead but it was always going to be difficult but they got the two goals in the end so we've got to bounce back."
The Sky Blues drop to eighth after the Iron defeat and will travel to Spotland at the weekend to face another newly-promoted side Rochdale.
He continued: "I thought we were very unlucky at the end as I thought we did well with ten men. We were in control at the end of the game and I thought we'd get the equaliser but it wasn't to be.
"We can be proud of our efforts tonight and the fans kept us going all night. It was a shame we couldn't find the equaliser for them.
"Even with the ten men, I thought we were on top and I don't think we deserved to lose the game. It was a great run for us but this is just a blip.
"We'll go to Rochdale on Saturday ready to go again and I'm sure we can go on another run."
