Mark Robins demoans his side's 2-1 defeat to Scunthorpe...

Coventry City manager Mark Robins was left ruing his side’s missed chances after the Sky Blues lost 2-1 against Scunthorpe at the Ricoh Arena.

City took the lead when Baker smashed City in front with a free kick after 35 minutes but Scunthorpe striker Leon Clarke levelled with a much-debated spot kick before half-time.

Clarke went on to win the game for the away side in the 76th minute when he slotted home past Joe Murphy and Robins wasn’t happy after the full-time whistle.

The City boss said: “That game seems symptomatic of what we do at the moment. We did brilliantly on Tuesday night with a great win and could have followed that up today with another result.

“But that wasn’t the case and that is not good enough. We have to remedy that as we are capable of going on good runs where we picking up points weekly.

“That is the thing which is going to take a little bit of time and it is frustrating. That mentality is still being instilled into the players.

“I wasn’t happy with the way we started at all and it seemed like the third game in the week had caught up with us.

“We were geared towards being at the top of our game as we had put in a lot of work in for the match but that wasn’t shown out on the pitch.”

The loss to Brian Law’s Scunthorpe side means that City failed to record their third straight victory in League One.

The Sky Blues travel to Hartlepool next week and Robins wants his players to show the desire to improve for the club.

He continued: “There was no tempo for our play and it was too flat for many periods. There is some decent play out there but it is amongst a lot of ordinary play as well.

“They have come and nicked the points out of our pockets and I am not happy about that. It needs to be better and it needs to be better quickly.

“Without a shadow or a doubt, we are capable of better and capable of going on long runs in this league. That makes it even more frustrating for us.

“We have had some great chances saved right at the very end and looked like we could have got a point but it wasn’t good enough.

“We have to prove we are good enough and we have to show a determination to improve.”
