Mark Robins speaks at the Sky Blues Business Networking event on Monday morning...

Coventry City manager Mark Robins told a group of local business people that he can turn the club’s fortunes around – given time.

The City boss met around 50 members of the local business community at the Sky Blues Business Networking event at the Ricoh Arena on Monday morning.

The next Sky Blues Business Networking breakfast will be held on Monday 10th December at the Ricoh Arena.

Robins said a culture change was required throughout the club – and the city – for the Sky Blues to achieve long-term success.

He said: “I’ve only been here a few weeks and I’ve met a lot of supporters at various events I have been to. They all say a very similar thing and then I heard the same when I was talking to local businesses.

“There is a sense that people have come to expect mediocrity and that there is nothing we can do about it and it is now almost accepted.

“We can change that, I am absolutely sure of that, but it might take a little bit of time which is a rare commodity in football.

“Of course, I can understand that people see us take a couple of steps forward and then have their hopes dashed with a below-par performance.

“Ultimately, we have to change the culture to one that not only expects success but believes it can be achieved. We are putting the building blocks in place now that will help us get there but it is not going to happen overnight.”

It was the second Business Networking Breakfast, sponsored by De Marco Solicitors, and also featured a presentation from the firm’s Sandra Garlick looking at social media.

She passed on five top tips to utilising social media in a business and how to achieve positive results.

Sandra said: “It is great that Coventry City have introduced this new event for local businesses. I was delighted to be able to lend my support and to hear Mark Robins’ future plans for the club.

“It was also good to talk to other SMEs about the power of social media in business. It is a great way of speaking to and engaging with potential customers and clients, without selling to them.

“People buy from people and social networks are a great way of getting to know someone without pushing the hard sell. It’s formed a key part of my marketing strategy and has helped us to grow.
